Bella Centre, Copenhagen
Thursday, June 25th, 2009 | uncategorized
After a morning of hydro power and wind energy, it’s time for a blitzkrieg at the Bella Centre, the Copenhagen convention centre where the UN Climate Summit will happen this December. The UN says it’ll be their biggest summit in history, and they’re expecting 15 000 people.
The floor plan for the 15th meeting of all the signatory countries of the Kyoto Protocol (well, they meet more regularly than that, but the big, annual Congress of the Parties, COP, meetings are the ones which really make a dent on the calendar). Two years ago, at Bali, they decided that December 09 would be THE year to clinch the deal. So this is where it’ll all happen. Seal the deal, they hope. What deal? The global agreement that’ll try to stabilise greenhouse gas emissions at a level that will avoid dangerous climate change.
Here we are, going over the layout of the building so that when we step into the Bella Centre (after staggering here from the train station, nearby, in sub zero temperatures) we don’t feel too overwhelmed by the throng of scientists, NGOs, government officials and press.
